On March 3, 1949, the Tucker Corporation ceased operations. Seventy-seven years ago today, a federal judge handed control of Preston Tucker’s revolutionary automotive company to court-appointed trustees, ending one of the most ambitious startup stories in American automotive history. Only 51 cars had been built. The dream was over.
Today, those same 51 Tucker 48s are among the most valuable American automobiles ever produced. Recent auction sales have ranged from $1.38 million to $2.9 million. Francis Ford Coppola’s Tucker sold just last year for $1.545 million at Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach auction.
The difference between a million-dollar Tucker and a two-million-dollar Tucker? Documentation. Provenance. The paper trail that proves every owner, every service, every modification across seventy-seven years.
That is why we’re launching Rennch today.
The Tucker Story: Innovation Lost to History
Preston Tucker’s vision was decades ahead of its time. The Tucker 48—often called the Tucker Torpedo—introduced safety features that wouldn’t become standard for another thirty years: a padded dashboard, a pop-out safety windshield, a perimeter frame crash structure, and the famous center “Cyclops” headlight that turned with the steering. The rear-mounted flat-six engine, adapted from a Franklin helicopter powerplant, could push the car to 120 mph—extraordinary performance for 1948.
When Tucker’s company was forced into bankruptcy on March 3, 1949, just 50 production cars and one prototype had been completed. The SEC investigation, while ultimately resulting in a full acquittal for Tucker, destroyed the company’s reputation and finances before it ever had a chance to succeed.
But here’s what matters for us today: of those 51 Tuckers built, 47 are known to survive. And the ones that command the highest prices are invariably those with complete, documented histories—cars where every owner, every service, every part can be verified.

What Documentation Actually Does
Consider what happened at last year’s Monterey Car Week. Tucker #1003, formerly owned by George Lucas and extensively documented by marque experts in coordination with the Cammack Tucker Archives at the AACA Museum, sold for $1.38 million. Another Tucker with less complete documentation went unsold at a lower estimate.
The same pattern holds for Porsches. The Porsche 356—the company’s first production car, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1949, just two weeks after Tucker’s company closed—now trades at auction for anywhere from $79,000 for a driver-quality coupe to well over a million dollars for a documented Carrera Speedster. A barn-find 1955 356 Pre-A Speedster that had been parked since 1962 recently sold for $532,000, setting a new record for its type. Why? Because the car’s history was unbroken. One owner from new. Complete provenance. Every question answered.
The market consistently rewards vehicles with complete service histories. Research suggests documented cars can command a 10-20% premium at resale, while undocumented vehicles may see up to 40% value erosion at the point of sale. The difference isn’t sentimental—it’s financial.
Why We Built Rennch
I drive and race my Porsches. I maintain them myself. I know those cars down to the screws. And like most enthusiasts, I’ve accumulated shoeboxes of receipts, faded service records, and handwritten notes that represent thousands of hours of work—and thousands upon thousands of dollars in parts and labor.
That paperwork tells a story. Every turn of the wrench, every oil change, every upgrade. But paper fades. Receipts get lost. Binders fall apart. And when it’s time to sell, all that history becomes impossible to verify.
Rennch solves that problem. It’s a complete vehicle maintenance platform that transforms your paper records into a permanent, professional digital archive. You can scan in past service records and CarFax reports using the built-in OCR scanner. You can log every repair, modification, and upgrade with photos, receipts, and detailed notes. You can track costs by vehicle and generate professional PDF service reports on demand.
When it’s time to sell, you’ll have exactly what buyers are looking for: verifiable documentation that proves every service, every part, every hour of care you’ve invested.

Built for Enthusiasts, Not Fleet Managers
Most vehicle tracking apps are designed for fleet operators counting mileage on corporate vehicles. Rennch is different. We built it for people who actually care about their cars.
Core features include VIN-verified manufacturer data and maintenance schedules pulled from the NHTSA database, so recommendations are calibrated to your exact vehicle—not a generic model-year estimate. The Glovebox module stores all your critical documents—insurance, registration, title, warranty, recall notices—with expiration tracking and alerts. The Parts module links directly to manufacturer-recommended products with one-tap ordering through Amazon, so you always get the right part for your specific car.
Everything syncs across devices through iCloud. Schedule service reminders in Apple Reminders or Calendar. Track your garage inventory of parts and consumables so you know what’s on hand before you lift the hood.
And here’s what makes us different from everyone else in this category: no subscriptions, no ads, no data farming. One-time purchase. Own it forever. Your data stays yours.
Why March 3
Seventy-seven years ago today, Preston Tucker’s dream died in a Chicago courtroom. His company was taken from him before it ever had a chance to prove itself.
But the cars survived. And the cars with the best documentation—the cars whose histories could be verified across decades—became the most valuable.
Your car may not be a Tucker. It may not be a Porsche Carrera Speedster. But the principle is the same: documentation creates value. Every service you log, every receipt you save, every photo you attach builds the provenance that future buyers will pay a premium for.
We’re launching Rennch on March 3 because the lesson of Tucker’s legacy couldn’t be clearer: the cars that endure are the cars whose stories can be told. Start telling yours.
